This studio experience is designed for pre-schoolers and their parents to stimulate young children’s natural curiosity and creativity by using a variety of materials and learning methods.
This course is an introduction to all of the fine art mediums of drawing, painting, and printmaking. Personal vision and style allows children to express their talents in a relaxed environment. Explore and create masterpieces while getting a little messy.
This is an opportunity for students who want to explore acrylic painting on stretched canvas. Finding and mixing colors and developing a personal style and subject matter is the basis of study. Foundation drawing will be used to strengthen the student’s composition. Still life and painting from photographs and art journals will be encouraged.
A graduate of Yale University, Ellen Colcord has traveled the world studying art. She is a resident artist at the Greenwich Arts Council in Greenwich, CT where she also teaches.
Stretch your imagination while strengthening drawing and painting skills. Discover the fundamentals and their relationship to each other, with an emphasis on individual perception and exploration. Learn traditional techniques such as proportion, shading, color, theory, composition, perspective and line quality through the use of a variety of media. Junior artists will discover new concepts and master basic skills while gaining confidence, pride and self- discipline.
Effective ways of seeing, the expressive use of color and composition and a personal mastery of materials will be emphasized in this painting course which is designed for artists of all levels of experience. Students may use the material of their choice-oil, acrylic, pastel or drawing media. Working from still life set-ups, or the subject of your choice, you will be assisted to develop a personal style and approach. In addition to extensive personal instruction, a demonstration or slide presentation will be featured every week.
