Catherine Sikora (saxophone, jazz improv)

B.A. in Jazz Studies, Leeds College of Music

"Sikora is a free-blowing player's player with a spectacular harmonic imagination and an evolved understanding of the tonal palette of the saxophone".

-Chris Elliot, Seacoast Online

Since working her way to New York to study abstract improvisation, coming from a completely music-free schooling in Ireland, Catherine Sikora has become a well-known face and sound in New York creative music circles, performing regularly around the New York area and beyond, both as a leader and as a sideman. Her undeniably original approach sets her voice apart from everyone else, even when surrounded by the most original and creative voices in New York City. Current projects include Clockwork Mercury with Eric Mingus, a duo project with Jeremy Bacon, 22 with Matt Lavelle and the Catherine Sikora trio with Francois Grillot and Bob Hubbard. Catherine is a sought after teacher of saxophone, flute and of advanced concepts of improvisation, with students of all levels from beginner to professional. She has taught masterclasses and been an adjunct faculty member at CUNY York's Summer Jazz Program. Catherine has a B.A. in Jazz Studies from Leeds College of Music in the U.K., and has studied with George Garzone and Bill Easley.
