As a guitarist, Micah Burgess was recently seen performing at the historic Chicago Theater with Cirque Du Soleil's "Banana Shpeel". Micah is also active as a guitarist on the New York musical theater scene.
Recent shows include concert performances of "Jawbreaker The Musical" at NYC's Canal Room, "Bromance The Dudesical" at Caroline's Comedy Club, "Separate: Battle Songs of Youth" at Ars Nova, "Woulda, Coulda, Shoulda" at the York Theater, "Relativity" at Theater Row, "Love, NY" at New World Stages (NY) and Curtain Call (CT), The American Songwriter Series at Lincoln Center, The NYC Public Theater's Composer Exposure and the "After the Storm" benefit series for Hurricane Katrina at Joe's Pub.
Musicals include "Trails", winner of the 2010 New York Musical Theater Festival Award for Best Music, the 2009 Summer Play Festival performance of "Departure Lounge" at NYC's Public Theater and the 2009 New York Musical Theater Festival run of "Plagued the Musical".
Micah has shared the stage with Broadway writing duo Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty, Stephanie D'Abruzzo, Shoshana Bean, Brian Lynch, Fabian, Bobby Rydell, Danny and the Juniors, and Laverne and Shirley's Eddie Mekka. Micah recently appeared on screen playing guitar in the pilot episode for the television show "Marry Me", hopefully coming to a cable network soon. Micah is also a recipient of the Eubie and Marion Blake Award for jazz performance.
As a composer, Micah has written music for stage and film including the Off-Broadway production of The Hat Left Behind as well as a documentary entitled "I Am Bombay",
a featured selection at the 2006 Indo American Arts Council Film Festival in New York City and the 2007 Stuttgart Film Festival Germany.
In 2008, Micah released his first CD as a bandleader, "We Do Know You".
As an instructor, Micah has over ten years of experience including adjunct positions at New York University, Duquesne University and the Queens Conservatory.
He is a co-founder and guitar instructor at Art House Astoria, a nonprofit conservatory for music and art in Queens, NY.
