Meet Kevin
Kevin Smith Kirkwood is a Broadway performer, award-winning actor, director, and educator who is passionate about helping young artists discover their own voices. Best known for his performance as Angel in the original Broadway production of the Tony Award-winning musical Kinky Boots, Kevin brings the insight and experience of a working professional to every rehearsal and classroom. He made his Broadway debut in The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee and has also appeared as the Scarecrow in The Wiz at Sacramento Music Circus, in addition to earning acting honors for his performances in RENT, Violet, and It's Karate, Kid!.
Beyond the stage, Kevin has appeared in film and voice acting projects, including the feature film Condemned and Marvel's Wolverine podcast series. He is also the creator and star of the critically acclaimed solo show CLASSIC WHITNEY: ALIVE!, which has played to sold-out audiences at Joe's Pub, The Cutting Room, aboard cruise ships around the world, and even for a special performance at the Whitney Houston estate.
As Director of Art House Astoria's Next Act high school musical theater program, Kevin is known not only for his professional accomplishments but also for his ability to inspire young performers. He creates a rehearsal room where students are challenged to grow as actors, singers, and storytellers while building confidence, collaboration, and a genuine love of the creative process. His passion for mentoring the next generation of artists is at the heart of everything he does.
