Visual art classes at Art House Astoria are designed for curious kids who love to create, explore, and, from time to time, get a little messy. OUr classes use drawing, painting, and mixed media to help young artists build skills and confidence in a warm, community-centered space where imagination leads the way.

Art is Awesome

| (Pre-K and K)

In this joyful first art class, little hands get busy and big imaginations run wild! Through painting, drawing, and hands-on crafts, young artists explore colors, shapes, and textures in a fun, encouraging environment. Each project is designed for early learners to build confidence, practice fine motor skills, and express their unique creativity—because at this age, every masterpiece is awesome!

 

Art Journey 1

| Grades 1-3


Embark on a colorful adventure where creativity takes center stage! In this lively introduction to art, students will explore drawing, painting, and mixed media while discovering the magic of color mixing and the building blocks of great design. From bold brushstrokes to delicate sketches, each project encourages imagination and skill. An art supply list will be provided upon enrollment—just bring your curiosity and get ready to create!

 

Hands-On Arts

| Grades 2 - 4


Roll up your sleeves and dive into the art of making! In this craft-centered class, students explore the beauty of traditional handmade arts—creating their own paper, learning the timeless skill of bookbinding, and discovering folk crafts from stamp making to weaving. Each project blends creativity with craftsmanship, giving students the satisfaction of making something both beautiful and functional with their own two hands. An art supply list will be provided upon enrollment.

 

Comics, Illustration, and Cartoons

| Grades 4 - 8

In this imaginative and skill-building class, students will explore the exciting world of comics, character design, and visual storytelling. Through drawing, illustration, and creative writing exercises, young artists will learn how to create expressive characters, develop story ideas, design comic panels, and bring their own original stories to life. Students will experiment with a variety of illustration techniques and materials while building confidence in their artistic voice and storytelling abilities. Perfect for creative kids who love drawing, cartoons, graphic novels, and making up stories!

 

Art journey 2

| Grades 4-6


Building upon foundational skills, students in Junior Art are ready to take their talents to the next level! This class dives deeper into drawing techniques, richer color exploration, and the technique of creating depth through perspective. Each lesson encourages creativity while refining skill, helping young artists bring their ideas vividly to life. An art supply list will be provided upon enrollment.

 

Drawing and Painting 1 & 2

| Grades 3-8

Our drawing and painting technique classes focus on foundational drawing and painting skills, while staying fun and engaging for kids. Each class starts off with a lesson on topics like perspective, color theory, and shading. Then students apply those techniques to projects of their choice.

 

Teen Art

| Grades 6-8

Designed for teens who wish to develop their artistic skills beyond the basics - This class is all about taking your art further and  pure creative growth. Students can choose their own projects and our teachers give one-on-one instruction to meet their personal needs. We're also able to assist with portfolio preparation! Perfect for teens who want to sharpen their skills beyond the basics, we’ll experiment with new techniques, explore different mediums, and tackle projects that challenge both imagination and ability. It’s a space to discover your style, push boundaries, and make art that feels like you. An art supply list will be provided upon enrollment.

 

Sewing Design 1 & 2

| Grades 4 - 6

Learn the principles of sewing design, including drawing the human figure, rendering a variety of fabrics, and various illustration techniques. Students will work on developing and editing a collection of clothing or accessories based on current trends and interests. Students will learn how to use a sewing machine and create a garment of their own!
