Students can dive into advanced, full-scale productions or explore the basics through theater games and scene work, all while learning collaboration, storytelling, and how to shine onstage in a supportive, joyful space.

Theater is Awesome

| (Pre-K and K)

A joyful first step into the world of theatre, this class invites toddlers and preschoolers to explore storytelling, movement, and imagination in a way that’s perfect for their age. Through songs, games, and creative play, young performers build confidence, practice self-expression, and work together to bring characters and stories to life. Inspired by our MT101 program but tailored for younger learners, this class focuses on fun, flexibility, and the magic of pretend—because at this stage, every performance is a standing ovation!

 

Musical Theater 101

| Grades 1-5

The perfect starting point for aspiring performers, this class introduces students to the core elements of musical theatre in a fun, supportive environment. Through theatre games, voice and body warm-ups, and creative exercises, students build the skills needed for the stage—learning stage directions, developing vocal projection, and exploring expressive movement. Ensemble work fosters teamwork and confidence as students collaborate to bring short scenes and songs to life. This class can be taken multiple times to continue building skills and serves as a prerequisite for all production classes.

 

Musical Theater Production 1

| Grades 2 - 4

For students ready to take the next step into full-scale production! Students will deepen their skills in acting, singing, and movement during the first half of the year, and move on to producing of full stage production in the second half. The class emphasizes character development, vocal performance, and ensemble collaboration, giving students the confidence and tools to shine.

In the second half of the year, the class shifts into full production mode. Students will work together as a company to mount a fully staged show, gaining hands-on experience in staging, choreography, and the rehearsal process. They’ll learn how to work under technical elements like costumes, sets, and lighting, mirroring the collaborative process of professional theater.

The term culminates in a polished, high-quality production for family and friends—offering students the thrill of live performance while fostering confidence, discipline, and teamwork in a supportive, growth-focused environment.

Teacher pre-approval required before enrolling.

 

Musical Theatre Production 2 & 3

| Grades 4-8

Production-based classes meet twice a week, culminating in a major musical performance. MT2 is for Grades 2-5, while MT3 is specifically for middle schoolers. This class requires full participation and cannot be dropped mid-term.


Teacher pre-approval required before enrolling.

 

Just Act

| Grades 4-8

A dynamic, no-singing, no-dancing theatre class designed for students who want to focus solely on the craft of acting. Through improvisation, monologues, character studies, and scene work, students will strengthen their stage presence, emotional expression, and storytelling abilities. The class encourages exploration of different genres and styles, helping actors develop versatility and confidence. The term concludes with a small performance for family and friends, giving students the opportunity to showcase their growth and creativity to our Art House community.

 

 

PLAY PRODUCTION

| Grades 5 - 8

Designed for students who want to focus exclusively on acting. Over 14 weeks, students will rehearse, develop characters, and bring a full play to life — culminating in a fully staged and costumed performance. Led by longtime Art House favorite Paul Weissman, this Play Production class is ideal for students who are ready to deepen their acting skills through sustained rehearsal and ensemble work. Students will explore text analysis, character development, listening, and truthful performance while working toward a public production


Next ACT

| Grades 9 - 12

 

“Next Act” at Art House Astoria offers a unique opportunity for high school students to work with Broadway professionals. In a cast of no more than 15 actors, every participant will be featured and receive personalized mentorship from industry experts. With scholarships available, “Next Act” empowers aspiring performers to take the next step in their theatrical journey, building the skills and confidence to shine both on stage and beyond.


Stage Technical Production

| Grades 6 - 12

Step behind the curtain and discover the skills that make live theatre possible. In this hands-on class, students learn the fundamentals of stage management, lighting, sound, set design, and other key elements of technical production. Working closely with MT2 and MT3, participants gain real-world experience by assisting in their final performances—helping coordinate rehearsals, manage backstage cues, and bring each production to life. This class is perfect for students who want to understand the full scope of theatre and develop leadership, organization, and problem-solving skills along the way.
